Chapel

Each Sunday morning during the school year, we start with a 15 minute mini-worship service for our children. We call this time Chapel. During Chapel we utilize a laptop and projector. We project the song words and art that fit with the day’s theme and the order of the chapel service. It brings a contemporary feel in this age of multi-media. Chapel begins at 9:30a.m. During Chapel, the children get the chance to share joys and concerns which are included in prayer. We read and discuss one of the scriptures that will be heard during Worship. This is to give the children something to connect to when they hear the familiar words read again in the large worship setting. Music is an important part of Chapel. We sing “Jesus Loves Me” each week as well as 2-3 other songs that vary. Once a month, Chapel is held in our Trinity Room and is intergenerational. This is a wonderful chance for our children to mingle with the adults in a worship setting that is tailored just for children.

Sunday School

Sunday School year runs from the Sunday after Labor Day through Pentecost Sunday. Our Sunday School starts at 9:30a.m each Sunday with Chapel. After chapel the children break off into different classes:

1) Preschool (3yrs) through 1st grade
2) 2nd through 6th grades
3) 7th through 12th grades

Our current curriculum is entitled, “Live B.I.G.” This includes a DVD component that the children really enjoy. B.I.G. stands for Belief in God. The idea behind the curriculum is teaching children to hear, see and live their belief in God.

Nursery

Babies, birth through age 2, are welcome at our nursery class starting at 9:30am each Sunday. During worship, nursery is available for birth through age 5. We have cribs, highchairs, toys, books and music available for our youngest church members.

Adult Forum

The Adult Forum is for all ages after high school graduation. Our programs are varied and range from Bible Study to St. John’s Mission outreach and community issues to world issues. We especially encourage parents to bring their children to Sunday School and/or nursery class and then join us in the Trinity Room for coffee or tea at 9:30a.m. We try to start class shortly thereafter. Once a month, the children join us at 9:30 for an intergenerational 15-minutes Chapel service.

Youth Group

Our Youth Group is active group of participants in grades 7th through 12th. They meet usually once a month to share fellowship, play games and plan future outings. They participate in conference, regional and national youth gatherings.

Sunday School Choir

The Sunday School choir rehearses during Chapel when needed. They sing in worship occasionally. All the Sunday School members 3 years through 12th grades are part of the choir. They perform skits on special occasions throughout the year, including an annual Christmas pageant.

Children and Stewardship

We believe that children are an important part of the church. We teach our children about Stewardship and giving to your church of your time and talents. We encourage the children and youth to contribute weekly to the Sunday School offering, stressing that it is not what you give but do you give. We impress upon them how important their participation in the Sunday School Choir is. By being part of the choir and participating in skits and pageants, they are enriching our St. John’s community.

Summer Programs

The Sunday School year runs from the Sunday after Labor Day through Pentecost Sunday. During the summer, there is a special program for 2nd through 6th graders during the 10a.m. worship service. The theme of the program changes yearly. We also offer the opportunity to participate, free of cost, in Vacation Bible School. We collaborate with St. John’s Lutheran church at 5th and Walnut for our annual VBS. The classes are one week long, usually in June, and in the evening. Dinner is included for those who are interested.
